travelling at the speed of light, and other life lessons i learned from sci-fi

so sitting here i have realized that i somehow have devoted my life to sci-fi. lately the cycle of movies being watched at my home with marie has included battlestar galactica (the new one) firefly, which is one of the best acted/written/created shows ever, lord of the rings (ok thats more fantasy than sci-fi) and star wars. i think the common factor in these shows is that the special effects and the ability to travel thru space and what-not, are pretty much secondary. the human drama and story is what i am drawn to and i seem to find it more in these types of stories than anywhere else. not sure why that is, but i just finished watching episode 3 and felt compelled to comment on human drama in fictional worlds!! the best example i can give you is with the tragically short lived tv show Firefly and its big screen debut under the title Serenity. i wont even try to explain, just watch it and you'll see what i mean! when it comes to life lessons, amazing stories or just plain great movies which ones get you in the heart?

mitch hedberg joke of the day:
i had an apartment and i had a neighbor and whenever he would knock on my wall i knew he wanted me to turn my music down and that made me angry 'cause i like loud music...so when he knocked on the wall i'd mess with his head. i'd say "go around! i cannot open the wall! i dunno if you have a door on your side, but over here there's nothing!! it's just flat."
