cheer cheer for old notre dame

my wife and i have life lists of things we would like to do and/or see in our lifetimes.

there are trips to England and Germany among other places, but many of mine have been sporting related.

the ones that i have crossed off the list are:

see the Red Sox play in Boston @ Fenway Park (which happened in sept. of 04, the year they won it all , & rie touched
the
green monster!!)

go to Neyland Stadium and see the University of Tennessee play at home (which was homecoming)

see Brett Favre play in person (went to first NFL game at Detroits Ford Field & watched Mr. Favre become only the

second quarterback to throw 400 touchdown passes in his career.)

the 2 big hurdles left to climb are to :

go to Lambeau Field and watch the Packers play at home

go to south bend and watch my beloved Fightin' Irish play at home in front of Touchdown Jesus

......well.........

after a phone call i got today from my mother, i might as well leave the pic from my previous blog up for this one cuz Rie and i are going to see the blue and gold of Notre Dame play this weekend!!!!!

my mom called and simply asked if we had fun friday night, (she called while we were at Ike & J's q/ the Hoeks playing games), i said yes we had a great time. she asked if i had plans saturday, and i said, yes The Mines are playing saturday night and i thought i was working saturday all day until then.

mom then said "yeah, thats right, you're on the schedule but i'm gonna give you the day off."
to which i instantly took to mean that someone died and there was a funeral.
but i was wrong, and as soon as mom mentioned the names colleen and ray (friends of the family and ray attends ND) i started making travel plans.

oh how exciting !! we get to watch them play the Cardinal of Stanford, which has an interesting trivia fact about them...did you know that their mascot is not pluralized??? it is the Stanford Cardinal....with no S.

and with that i am going to go pass out now!

later taters

p.s. by the way, how many professional sports teams (hockey, baseball, basketball, and football) can YOU name who's nickname does NOT end in S. and by nickname i mean like the green bay PACKERS or the detroit PISTONS

i used to know how many there was total, but that was years ago before new expansion teams and relocations! i WILL try to find the answer soon though !

ooohh...I've played the "names with no S" before...don't forget the NC State Wolfpack. That's my favorite.

and other than that, I'm not really talking to you anymore based on the fact you're headed down to watch ND play at home.

Buy a ridiculously huge college football Coke for me.

BUT - did you realize that the 'cardinal' of stanford is not a member of the animal kingdom, but, simply a color? yes. the color. is their mascot, but only on paper. Beeeecaaaaause, their mascot that walks around and terrifies adults and children alike is a giant tree with a face on it. I wish i was making this up. http://www.deadspin.com/sports/stanford-tree/the-ballad-of-stanfords-misbehaving-tree-196962.php

as for another team that isn't pluralized, i submit Dartmouth, and their mascot Keggy the keg.
