so as we approach the christmas season (you may be approaching, i have been heavily entrenched in it for weeks!), i just felt like sharing a couple of holiday favorites of mine.
1) j.r.r. tolkien wrote letters in response to his children's letters to father christmas. in them he portrayed st. nick and sometimes would write as an elf, and even sometimes as a polar bear that worked for santa claus. it is a wonderful collection of these letters that lasted over 20 years. tolkiens' creativity is obvious but his warmth, and heart were an unexpected surprise. the book is called Letters from Father Christmas and i highly recommend checking it out.
2) one of my favorite songwriters released an album a couple of christmases ago and tours every holiday season playing the album live with all of his friends. it is the story of the coming of Christ done in a series of songs leading up to his birth.
his name is Andrew Peterson and the album is called Behold the Lamb of God. please give it a listen.
3) every year along with my many christmas traditions, i listen to this cd i have of a live radio broadcast of It's a Wonderful Life, featuring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. what a wonderful throwback. and in an added bonus, Rie and i are going to the Rialto theatre in Joliet, Illinois to see a live production of the radio show of I.A.W.L. tix are only $10 you should check it out. it will be done live on local radio but you can go to the theatre to see them perform it!
4) there was another favorite that actually prompted this list and now that i go to type it out, i find that i cannot remember what it was! oh well, that's my life thoughts come and go like leaves on trees! that's the beauty of blogs, when i DO remember it i can add it and delete the part where i mentioned that i forgot it!
happy holidays.

I simply MUST know where I can buy a copy of that radio broadcast. Heaven. Heaven!
So what did you think of the Joliet Radio Show?
it was alot of fun. we really appreciated the way they let the audience participate by being the noises of groups of people in different scenes. we would definately go again.
I'm really glad to hear it! I was looking to see what was on the web regarding the show and found it mentioned in your blog - awesome! It is a lot of fun and I love doing it. If you are so inclined, you can listen to it Christmas Day. It will be on WJOL from 6a-6p. I think it is streaming on their website too. Rumor has it star96.7 may be as well. Thanks for the warm comments!!!
